Martinez, Cifuentes highlight Knights win

Slipping to (0-1), the Knights hoped to right the ship as they face the Dragons in a JCC of Bayonne Jr. Division Indoor Soccer opening day tussle. Both squads came out swinging with Nicholas Resua popping in two goals off assists from Rohan Banoor and Anthony Frasier for the Dragons while the Knights countered with two goals by Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes with Angel Martinez picking up an assist. Tied at 2 all, the Knights took a 3-2 lead as Aaliyana Cifuentes hit her mark for her first goal. Less than ten seconds later, the bout was knotted up once more as Matt Miceli pulled the Dragons into a 3 all tie. The seesaw tempo continued as the Knights’ Angel Martinez made it 4-3 with his first goal of the season. Trailing with ten minutes remaining, the Dragons’ Ryan “Iron” Griffin refueled the gridlock by tying the game at 4-4. Staying true to form, the Knights answered with a goal as Alejandro Cifuentes made it 5-4 with a net to net rocket. For a brief period, the scoring rush slowed as Josh and Raquel Belber joined forces to firm up the Knights’ defense but the lull was once again shattered as Matt Miceli torched in his second goal making it 5-5. With 40 seconds left on the clock, the Knights got a huge break as a Dragons miscue put Angel Martinez in the hero’s roll as his penalty kick goal gave his Knights’ squad a 6-4 victory.
