Gonzalez triggers Comets win

Coming off an impressive 3-2 victory over the Sonics in week 3 the (1-3) Rockets hoped to continue their winning ways as they battled the (4-0) Comets in a JCC of Bayonne Sr. Division Indoor Soccer showdown. As usual, the Comets struck first with Brayden Cotter assisting Alexandro Gonzalez on the game’s first goal. Two minutes later, the Rockets answered as Angel Martinez zipped a pass to Chris Shaw who nailed the tying strike. Dead locked at 1-1, both teams defenses squared off as the Rockets’ Eric Orczykowski and the Comets’ Brian Cotter held the high ground at net while the Rockets’ Meghann Mock, Kevin Aguilar, Maddie Markowski and Kyle O’Hara went toe to toe with the Comets’ Chloe Gregory, Michael Lago, Colin Woods and Mackenzie Woods. The Rockets finally broke the stalemate as Natallyah Teixeira worked the ball to Chris Shaw who put the Rockets up 2-1 with less than 10 minutes remaining. While the defensive brawl continued, the Comets’ Brian Cotter seized an opening and drilled a net to net blast to tie the bout at 2 all. As the rockets tried to regroup, the Comets pounced again as Gonzalez assisted Brayden Cotter on a scoring gem to take a 3-2 lead with just five minutes left in regulation. The final five minutes quickly turned into a nightmare for the once optimistic Rockets as the bulldozing Comets piled up four rapid fire goals with Brayden Cotter assisting Alexandro Gonzalez on three net scorchers while Brian Cotter notched his second net to net bomb. By the time the dust settled, the Comets once again ruled with a 7-2 come from behind victory.
