Cotter, Gonzalez fuel Comets

The JCC of Bayonne’s 2014 Indoor Soccer season got off to a soaring start with a Sr. Division bout between the Rockets and the Comets. Things heated up quickly for the Comets’ offense as Brayden Cotter blasted in the game’s first goal which was soon followed by Alexandro Gonzalez’s net jet as the Comets took a 2-0 lead. The Rockets battled back as Kevin Aguilar drilled in a goal to make it 2-1, Comets. As the action tightened up, the Comets exploded for three quick goals as Cotter (1) and Gonzalez (2) pumped in goals while Michael Lago picked up his first assist. After two defensive miscues by the Comets, the Rockets narrowed the Comets’ lead to 5-3 off penalty boots by Chris Shaw and Kevin Aguilar. Early in the final period both teams traded goals with the Comets’ Brayden Cotter scoring off an assist by Mackenzie Woods while the Rockets Chris Shaw cashed in for a goal with Natallyah Teixeira on the assist. Leading 6-4, the Comets kicked in to high gear as Gonzalez netted two more goals while Cotter zipped in his forth goal of the game making it 9-4, Comets. While the Comets’ offense took care of business, Brian Cotter, Colin Woods, Chloe Gregory and Elliott Santana ruled the Comets’ defensive ranks as they bottled up the Rockets’ offense. With time running down, both teams added a pair of scores as Brayden Cotter and Alexandro Gonzalez torched the nets for the Comets while the Rockets’ Madison Neal Markowski registered a goal and an assist with Kevin Aguilar notching his third goal off an assist by Angel Martinez. Inspite of the 11-6 defeat, a special mention must be given to the Rockets’ Meghann Mock, Kyle O’Hara and Eric Orczykowski for their determined effort throughout the bout.
