To the Editor:
Recently, part of a sermon delivered by a priest in a local church dwelled on unfortunate “financial difficulties”. He then proceeded to mention the “free” services available to parishioners. Who would ever question the commitment, dedication, and heart-felt sincerity of the clergy?
Then, there is the B.O.E. The teachers continue to hear “no money.” An “olive branch” in the form of a 2 percent increase was formulated since this is the fourth year without a settled contract. It makes one wonder. How can you put students first, if teachers are last?
Also, the other part of the sermon was a request to contribute for retired religious. These once young men and women dedicated their being to serving God. This service to society’s welfare should never be overlooked.
Finally, a common sense approach by the Board of Egregious (glaring error) would be to set aside money in the budget with the assumption of a contract settlement. After four years of a salary freeze, as that actor asked “Where is the money?” or did I miss something…
