Monday, Jan. 20, is Martin Luther King Day, a federal holiday. The Hudson Reporter offices in Hoboken and Bayonne are closed, as are schools, post offices, the stock exchange, and most banks.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on Jan. 15, 1929, and was assassinated on April 4, 1968. He was a pastor and leader of the Civil Rights Movement. He helped organize the March on Washington in 1963, the site of his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
He was killed in Memphis, where he attended a rally and delivered his “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” address.
