HUDSON COUNTY — The Jersey City schools, Hoboken schools, Weehawken schools, Secaucus schools, Bayonne schools, West New York schools, North Bergen schools, and several others announced on Thursday night that they will be closed on Friday due to the expectation of heavy snowfall. The announcements came after Gov. Chris Christie declared a state of emergency. He did not order schools to close and left it up to the districts to decide.
The Weehawken Saturday HSPA program has been canceled.
NBC reported around 9:30 p.m. that 223 school systems in the Tri-State area had already announced they will close on Friday.
The city of Hoboken announced an 11 a.m. delayed opening for non-snow emergency personnel on Friday, Jan. 3. Public safety and snow removal operations personnel were asked to report to work as scheduled.
