Funeral services were held Dec. 22 for Bobby Bloom, 76, of Jersey City. He died Dec. 18. He was born to the late Felicia and Fred Bloom in Jersey City. He married the love of his life Mary Lees in 1972 and they lived together in Jersey City throughout their long and happy marriage. Although Bobby had been afflicted with polio at 5 years old and had suffered paralysis of both his legs, he never surrendered to the disease. He was determined to live an active life and to eoy all this world had to offer.
Bobby accomplished that goal. He was a working musician. In musical circles he was well known as “Bobby Blue.” He was a professional guitarist and talented vocalist who loved to entertain. His musical technique and approach were honest. One could not help recognize Bobby’s humanity and his passion for people of Hudson County. Bobby was by the many people who had met him at the parties and weddings he had played over the years. To his family he seemed to know everyone and everyone loved him.
While playing music and singing were his passion, his wife Mary, and his children, Robert and Jennifer and his three grandchildren Robby Bloom, Ella Peoples and Olivia Peoples were his joy. It is hard to recall a time that Bobby was not laughing or otherwise making others laugh being the lovable rogue who refused to sit still. He wore out numerous wheelchairs gallivanting from musical gigs, to political events, to parties, to card games, to friends’ houses and then back to his wife. His was a life well lived. For those who were fortunate enough to know Bobby he will be missed. His life will truly be a hard act to follow. Services arranged by the Greenville Memorial Home, Jersey City.
