Garcia, Morrone star in Chargers’ victory

Wrapping up regular season play in the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Football Sr. Division, the (2-8) Eagles and the (4-7) Chargers clashed in a tune up game as they ready themselves for next week’s playoff bout. Hitting on all cylinders, the Chargers piled up a 30-0 advantage as Ahmad McGill (2 TDs), Jazmine Garcia (1 TD, 2 expts), Adrianna “Magic” Morrone (1 TD, 2 expts), and James Johnson (2 expts) all found paydirt. On the defensive side of the ball, Morrone, Johnson, and McGill each picked off passes to keep the Eagles’ offense grounded. While the Chargers ruled the opening half, the Eagles kept pounding away as Chris Ballance put his squad on the board with a 25 yard TD grab. Up 30-6, the Chargers’ James Johnson tacked on a wire to wire TD reception and a two point catch making it 38-6. The Eagles did answer with a leaping TD grab by Jan Patrick Egan making it 38-12, Chargers. With time running down, both teams fired away as the Chargers’ Jazmine Garcia hauled in her second TD while the Eagles’ Janaaron Aquino hit Jaime Betancur for a 30 yard TD strike making it 44-18. The Chargers finally closed out the fray with “Magic” Morrone’s 15 yard TD gallop and James Johnsons’ 2 point dash for a 52-18 victory. A special mention must be given to the Eagles’ iron willed TE Ryan Ballance whose route running has made him one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the league.
