Building, utility and township officials reviewing fire site

NORTH BERGEN – Officials from the Parker Imperial building, Public Service Electric & Gas, and the township Building Department were testing the electrical system at the Kennedy Boulevard East structure Monday night following a three-alarm fire there yesterday, a spokesman said.
The fire at 7855 Kennedy Boulevard East began in unit 15C, and was extinguished by 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, according to Paul Swibinski, North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue spokesman.
“They were doing testing to make a determination whether electricity could be turned on again for half the building, a portion, or not at all,” he said.
Half of the condominiums in the 30-story, 309-unit building were without power since Monday night, the spokesman confirmed.
“Electricians are on the scene working to fix the system and are hopeful that the work can be completed today or tonight,” Swibinski said late morning Tuesday. “However, there is a possibility that it may not be completed until tomorrow.”
No residents were injured, but one firefighter was taken to Palisades Medical Center for observation of smoke inhalation, the official said. –Joseph Passantino
