At (1-6), the Jets still boast the league’s best scoring offense as they set their sights on downing the first place (5-2) Bears in a week six JCC of Bayonne Indoor Flag Football duel. Coming off a 40 point outing in game one of their doubleheader, the Jets’ Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes racked up eight more points on a long TD run and a two point dash. Trailing 8-0, the Bears pitched to Michael Egan who rumbled in for a 20 yard TD sprint. Moments later, the Jets increased their lead to 16-6 as Benjamin Stack pulled in a TD strike while Declan McCormick latched onto a two point dart. Hoping to spark his team’s offense, Bears’ QB Matt Miceli delivered a 30 yard TD toss and a two point missile to his “go to guy” Ryan Griffin making it 16-14, Jets. Two plays later, the Bears’ defense tied the game at 16 all as Jordan Neustein, Anthony Fraser, and the rest of the Bears defense notched their eighth safety of the season. With the Bears league leading defense and the Jets’ equally potent offense locking horns, the Jets “O” landed the next blow as “See Ya” Cifuentes tallied his 19th TD of the season giving the Jets a 22-16 advantage. Down by 6, the Bears turned to their speedster Nicholas Resua who tied the bout at 22 all with a goal to goal dash. After key runs by Alanis Concepcion, Owen Stack and Aaliyana Cifuentes the Jets were poised to take the lead until the Bears’ Nicholas Resua pilfered a pass in Bears’ territory. The great defensive effort was soon squandered as the Bears turned the ball back over to the Jets as Alejandro Cifuentes pulled in the interception. With time running out, the Jets marched towards paydirt but once again the Bears’ defense stepped up to notch their ninth safety for a hard fought 24-22 lead. The Jets had one last shot at victory but once again Resua picked off the errant pass to seal the deal.
