HOBOKEN – Six teenage boys who were allegedly throwing bottles around Hoboken Terminal on Tuesday afternoon were apprehended by New Jersey Transit police inside the train station and handed over to the Hoboken Police Department, a spokesman for the transportation authority confirmed.
The spokesman, Bill Smith, could only confirm the bottle throwing and arrests, but a report in the Cliffview Pilot cited a police officer as saying that the juveniles allegedly assaulted a U.S. Post Office employee and a disabled man in the vicinity of the terminal. Representatives for the Police Department could not be immediately reached for comment.
According to the report, the youths were attending a drug rehabilitation program when they became bored and decided to cause mischief, a police source told the on-line publication.
Five of the boys are from Jersey City and one is from Hoboken, said the report. The police source also said that federal charges were expected in connection with the alleged assault on the postal worker. – Dean DeChiaro
