Racist rant on Washington Street
A Latino Hoboken resident was walking on Washington Street Monday evening when, according to his statement to police, another Latino man carrying a liquor bottle berated him with racist language.
The victim, the report said, was crossing Fifth Street when the man repeatedly cursed at him. The man apparently called him a racist term starting with “s” and told him that he “should hang out with the white race,” before pulling a bottle of liquor out of his jacket pocket. The victim apparently thought he was about to be hit with the bottle, the report said, and he began to walk away, but the other man put the bottle back in his pocket.
The victim then called the police from a local deli, but eventually decided not to press harassment charges against the man.
Two charged in assault on cabbie
Two New York City residents were issued simple assault summonses by the Hoboken Police Department last weekend after a local cab driver accused them of allegedly assaulting him outside a riverfront hotel after a disagreement over a fare, according to a police report.
Police responded to reports of a fight on Second and River Streets just after 2 a.m. on Sunday to find Lanique James, 21, of Brooklyn and Devine Jerido, 21, of Manhattan, being restrained by three males, one of whom was a valet at the hotel, said the report.
According to the report, James and Jerido along with several others had entered a limousine parked outside the hotel and inquired about the price of a fare to Brooklyn. Apparently unsatisfied with the price, the men exited the vehicle but a verbal altercation broke out between the driver and James and Jerido.
According to the report, the hotel valet claimed to police that the men allegedly assaulted the driver. The driver told police that he, with the help of the valet, had been able to defend himself.

A Hoboken woman planning on selling her apartment and moving in with her boyfriend uptown returned home for the first time in almost two weeks to discover that her 46-inch flat screen television had been stolen, according to a police report.
The woman, who lives on Second Street but had been staying with her boyfriend in his Shipyard apartment for the better part of two weeks, told police that when she returned home, her front door was locked but her LG television was missing.
The television, the report said, is worth about $1,200.
According to the report, the woman found nothing else missing from the apartment, but noticed that a section of her rear window screen, which opens onto a fire escape on the rear of the building, was broken. By breaking the screen, an actor could theoretically open the window from the inside, the report said. Another window, which was filled by an air conditioner, could also be a possible point of entry, said the report.
The beers on the bus go round and round
A local school bus driver brought his bus to Hoboken police headquarters on Monday morning after discovering that someone had apparently broken in and hung out there over the weekend, said a police report.
The driver had parked his bus in the Connors School parking lot on Monroe Street on Friday afternoon and locked the doors, but when he returned on Monday morning, the passenger side door had been broken, the report said.
The driver found a Corona beer bottle cap and a cigarette butt on one of the seats, but there was no damage to the bus and nothing was stolen, said the report.
The police report noted that Connors School has some external surveillance cameras that could be checked for video evidence.
