Miceli, Griffin O.T. heroes for Bears

After slipping out of first place, the (3-2) Bears were looking to bounce back as they took on the (1-4) Jets in game one of their JCC of Bayonne Indoor Flag Football week five Jr. Division double header. With QB Matt Miceli at the helm, the Bears roared out to a 14-0 lead as Miceli hit Ryan Griffin and Nicholas Resua for two long TD strikes while Resua also added a two point sprint. Looking for a spark, the Jets’ Aaliyana Cifuentes turned a toss sweep into six points with a 30 yard TD run. Up 14-6, the Bears’ air attack continued as Miceli zipped a wire to wire TD bolt to Griffin making it 20-6, Bears. The Jets returned to their run game as Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes notched his 12th TD of the season with a 20 yard TD gallop to cut the Bears lead to 20-12. Following a strong defensive stand, the Jets’ offense narrowed the margin to two points at 20-18 with a short TD pass to Declan McCormick. With under two minutes remaining; the Bears stretched their lead to 26-18 as Michael Egan raced goal to goal for a TD. Trailing by 8, the Jets quickly answered with a coast to coast TD rumble by Alanis Concepcion and after Alejandro Cifuentes zipped around the defense for the two point conversion, tfhe Bears and Jets stood at 26 all and headed for this season’s first overtime bout. The Jets took the ball first but went three and out to give the Bears a chance for a big win. After missing the endzone on two downs, the Bears struck paydirt on their last gasp as Miceli launched a TD dart to Ryan Griffin as the Bears captured a 32-26 overtime victory. A special mention must be given to the Bears’ Anthony Fraser who has become this season’s most improved player.
