The Bayonne Tax Collector’s Office announced that fourth-quarter property tax payments are due on Tuesday, November 12. The nominal legal due date for the tax bills was Friday, November 1. However, the City Council authorized a grace period through November 12. Payments made by that date will avoid a late fee. Property owners may pay their taxes by mail or in person at City Hall, 630 Avenue C, or at Bayonne branches of Bayonne Community Bank (BCB), or through the City website, www.bayonnenj.org.
By state law, quarterly payments received after the close of business on Tuesday, November 12, will incur interest charges dating back to November 1, the nominal, legal due date for the fourth quarter. For anyone making payment in person on November 12, the Tax Collector’s Office strongly recommends paying at City Hall.
In the recent past, taxpayers often received a separate tax mailing for one or two quarterly billings. Since the City of Bayonne switched from a fiscal year to a calendar year, the Tax Collector’s Office has been able to send out four quarters of property tax billings in the same mailing. Please check the most recent tax mailing for your November 2013 bill. Keep your tax bills in a safe place and note the future due dates on your calendars or digital schedules.
Those who pay their property taxes with their mortgages should have received an advice copy of the property tax bills. They should continue paying their property taxes through their mortgages.
