Fish and chips benefit at Grove Reformed Church
Grove Reformed Church will hold its annual Fish and Chips Dinner on Nov. 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church, 46th Street and Kennedy Blvd.
Tickets are $14 for adults and $7 for children under 9 years old. All proceeds go to the college scholarship fund.

St. Joseph’s Immaculate Heart holding special prayer service
On Sunday, Dec. 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, St. Joseph’s Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel in North Bergen, 7615 Broadway, will hold a special prayer service at 3 p.m. to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the chapel.
“Immaculate Heart of Mary has been serving the spiritual needs of the people of North Bergen and Guttenberg since 1953,” said Marge Quinn, church spokeswoman.
All parishioners of St. Joseph’s main church and the chapel, past and present, are invited to attend the special service. The parish music ministries will perform some Marian hymns, according to Quinn.
Light refreshments will be served in the chapel lobby following the service.
Macy’s holding job fair at North Bergen library
The North Bergen Free Public Library will host a Macy’s job fair at the main library, 8411 Bergenline Ave., on Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Applications will be for seasonal warehouse associate positions at the department store.

Breast cancer seminar scheduled at hospital
Palisades Medical Center is sponsoring a Breast Cancer Education Seminar on Monday, Oct. 28, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Palisades Medical Center Auditorium, 7600 River Rd., North Bergen.
Registration begins at 6 p.m.
Admission to the event is free, as is parking. There will also be free transportation available from 60th Street & Bergenline Avenue, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Palisades Medical Center holding community health screening
Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen will hold a free public health screening on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at St. Rocco Roman Catholic Church, 4206 John F. Kennedy Blvd., Union City.
Information will be available on blood pressure, heart rate, sugar, and cholesterol.

Free Halloween party on Thursday for township children
The free township Halloween party will be held on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the North Bergen Recreation Center.
The event is open to all North Bergen residents from infant through nine years old. Registration is not required.
Volunteers needed at New Jersey Blood Services
New Jersey Blood Services, which supplies blood products and services to 60 hospitals throughout the state, is in need of volunteers at blood drives.
“The blood service volunteer is an integral member of the collection team, whose task it is to assist donors with registration, escorting, and canteen duties, and to watch for post-donation reactions,” said R. Jan Zepka, manager of community relations.
Volunteers should have the ability to relate to the public, be able to perform different jobs as needed, and have the willingness to follow rules.

Weehawken High hosting band festival Nov. 3
On Sunday, Nov. 3, the 5th Annual Weehawken High School Band Festival will take place at Louis A. Ferullo Stadium, Park Avenue in Weehawken, at 1 p.m.
Approximately 10 high school bands from across New Jersey will perform, and the day will be capped off with a performance by the award-winning Indians Band.
Tickets are available for a donation of $5 each (children age 5 and younger enter free).
Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the event.
