Officials: American Dream project to look as is for Super Bowl

HUDSON COUNTY AREA – The American Dream development project, called an eyesore by Gov. Chris Christie, will likely look as it does today when the Super Bowl is held in East Rutherford on Feb. 2, according to a report in The Record.
The structure referred to by Christie as the “ugliest damn building in New Jersey …,” is what visitors and the world television audience will observe, probably without any significant changes, the newspaper report said.
Officials knew the sprawling entertainment complex would not be completed by the time of the NFL’s championship game, but had been hopeful some type of cosmetic change might be in place. That hope has since been dashed by delays and reality setting in.
State officials said on Thursday, Oct. 17, that the coming of the winter season, and its effects on construction, would make it improbable for any major refurbishment to take place.
Christie adviser Jon F. Hanson said he hoped that Super Bowl ticket holders and others would be buoyed by the “signs of life” with the construction work going on at the site.
