City to get reimbursed for port improvements

The city is poised to approve an agreement with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey that would reimburse the city $844,445 related to berth improvements made at the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor.

Police to purchase five new police cars

At its Oct. 16 meeting, the City Council is expected to authorize the purchase of five 2014 police interceptor marked radio cars under state contract in the amount of $34,423 per vehicle for a total of $172,115 from Winner Ford of Cherry Hill, NJ.

Menendez and Sires press FAA to restrict tourist helicopters

Following up on the August 27 symposium on the impact of tourist helicopters on New Jersey communities, U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez and Rep. Albio Sires contacted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to present a plan for implementing tourist helicopter restrictions to protect quality of life and safety in New Jersey communities along the Hudson River.

Fundraiser for Bayonne girl

On Oct. 12 from 2 to 7 p.m., the Bayonne Elks Lodge at 364 Broadway will be hosting a fundraiser for 11-year-old Jocelyn, a Bayonne girl who is suffering from a rare brain disease. A $20 donation will include entertainment, hamburgers, hot dogs, side salads, other foods, soda, wine, or tap beer.

Health fair set for Oct. 20

The Bayonne Hispanic Association will be hosting its Annual Health Fair and Festival on Sunday, Oct. 20 from noon to about 4 p.m. at the municipal parking lot between 23rd and 24th streets on Del Monte Drive. For information call Abett at (201) 467-7119
