Families from ‘Real Housewives of New Jersey’ come to Hoboken for diabetes awareness walk

HOBOKEN — The Manzo and Laurita families from “Real Housewives of New Jersey” came to Hoboken’s Pier A Park on Saturday morning for a diabetes awareness walk, sponsored by Walgreen’s.
They tossed a football around as the organizers set up. Caroline, Albie, and Chris Manzo were there and live in Hoboken, near the waterfront. Caroline’s brother Chris Manzo was there along with his wife, Jacqueline Laurita.
Organizers were hoping to raise $20,000.
According to the Mayo Clinic: “Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood glucose, commonly called blood sugar. Glucose is vital to your health because it’s an important source of energy for the cells that make up your muscles and tissues. It’s also your brain’s main source of fuel. If you have diabetes, no matter what type, it means you have too much glucose in your blood, although the reasons may differ. Too much glucose can lead to serious health problems.”
Those problems can include, in severe cases, blindness and death.
Though some believe diabetes always occurs in older people, it can strike at any age.
