Death of Bayonne woman investigated
Based on statements that officials believe less than reliable, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s office is looking into the death of a woman on Evergreen Street on Aug. 21.
Officials said that, according to early reports, no foul play was involved in the death of the 46-year-old woman, but that additional toxicology reports are due back that would confirm the original examination. Local officials say the death was likely the result of natural causes.
One of Canada’s most wanted found in Bayonne
The U.S. Attorney’s office confirmed that a federal judge approved the extradition of one of Canada’s 10 most-wanted fugitives this week.
Dieuseul Jean, 51, of Montreal, was arrested in Bayonne and charged with stabbing Juthlande Pierre, 42, of Roxboro, Canada, on Dec. 25, 1995.
The search for Jean ended when the Royal Canadian Mounted Police informed the U.S. Marshal’s Service that Jean was reportedly living in Bayonne. A stakeout resulted in Jean’s arrest on March 28 when he was leaving a Bayonne warehouse where he worked.
The U.S. Attorney’s office for New Jersey confirmed that District Court Judge Mark Falk had approved Jean’s extradition in mid-August.
Elks hope to raise $3,000 for homeless veterans’ fund
On Aug. 31, the Bayonne Elks Motorcycle Committee will be hosting a 300-mile run to raise money for the New Jersey State Elks Army of Hope Committee. Money raised goes to aid the families of fallen soldiers, as well as wounded and recovering soldiers’ families. The participants will leave the Lighthouse Restaurant at 9 a.m. on August 31 and will return to the Bayonne Elks Lodge 434 around 6 p.m. The public can show support by sending them off or welcoming them home at the Lodge.
