Report: Jersey City teen shot and killed by men allegedly trying to rob his brother’s cell phone

JERSEY CITY – A Jersey City teen was shot and killed in the early morning hours of July 12 after two assailants allegedly stole a cell phone that belonged to his brother, according to a report on NJ.com.
The incident began on Mallory Avenue, where the brothers live with their parents. Two men allegedly approached the victim’s brother and took a phone away from him. The alleged assailants then took off and ran.
The brothers, according to NJ.com, gave chase and followed the assailants down Virginia Avenue in an effort to recover the phone. One of the assailants allegedly turned around and fired a shot in the direction of the brothers, striking one of them. The shooting victim either died at the scene or en route to the hospital.
The incident took place as the victim’s family, which moved to the U.S. from Pakistan, was celebrating the Muslim holiday of Ramadan.
Friday night, investigators said they had arrested an 18-year-old Jersey City resident in the killing and charged him with murder and robbery. Bail was set at $250,000.
