Siearra Battle and Nicole Bawiec led a 13-member contingent representing the Bayonne Recreation Panthers Special Olympics track and field team by each copping two gold medals at the recently held 2013 SONJ Chapter Summer Games. The event was contested at the College of New Jersey. The results:
Softball Throw: Sixth place, Samantha, Ciemeicki; Third place, Debbie LeSane; Second place, Dennis Driscoll; First place, Nicole Bawiec.
Shot Put: Third place, Violet Malcolm; Second place, Francheska Huentelaf.
Turbojav: Second place, Ronald Benitez; First place, Roger Belanger.
100-M Dash: Fourth place, Francheska Huentelaf.
200-M Dash: Second place, Roger Belanger and Violet Malcolm; First place, Nicole Bawiec, Ronald Benitez and Samantha Ciemiecki.
100-M Walk: Second place, Debbi LeSane; First place, Michael Walsh.
400-M Walk: Eighth place, Elizabeth Wentworth; Sixth place, Barbara Mari; Third place, Dennis Driscoll and Michael Walsh; Second place, Jody Czucza; First place, Siearra Battle.
800-M Walk: Sixth place, Elizabeth Wentworth; Fifth place, Barbara Mari; Second place, Jody Czucza; First place, Siearra Battle.
The Panthers’ afternoon was capped off by the gold medal-winning 4×100-M Race Walk Relay with Barbara Mari, Ellzabeth Wentworth, Jody Czucza, and Debbie LeSane.
The Panthers 4×100-M Relay team also turned in a great performance with Roger Belanger, Samantha Ciemiecki, Nicole Bawiec, and Ronald Benitez.
The Panthers were accompanied to the meet by John Valdora, Tessie Diaz, Denise Bawiec, Tom Moody, and Veronica Burns.
