Information session

To the Editor:

On May 1, the parents of Catholic School students were invited to an information session at Bayonne High School. This turned out to be a proud, sad, and beneficial experience for all concerned. Let me explain:
Proud because one could immediately sense the strong emotional bond in the family relationship. Sad because the wonderfully cherished Holy Family Academy will exist only as a memory. Beneficial because Bayonne High School can be a special place for everyone.
The speakers illustrated some distinct highlights: 1. Advanced level courses in all state required subjects, an Arts/Scholars Academy, Molecular Biology (Rutgers), Engineering (NJIT), and Modern Technology. 2. Support services for all students before, during, and after dismissal without the need for special arrangements. 3. Seniors accepted to Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Catholic University, Boston College, Rutgers, NJIT, TCNJ, Stevens, University of Chicago, American University, and others.
Chicago??? Isn’t that where teachers went on strike, closed the schools, requested that the mayor recognize and respect the role of teachers in a student’s achievement with a fair and equitable contract?
Bayonne: Students first, or did I miss something?
