HOBOKEN – On Wednesday afternoon, Hoboken mayoral candidate Ruben Ramos said he has a better plan to combat flooding than his opponent, Mayor Dawn Zimmer. The two will face off in November.
Ramos sent out a press release saying:
Every time water runs through our streets, families in Hoboken experience loss or damage to their property. When images of our city under water flash on the television screen, businesses prepare for fewer patrons. Those among us who drive to work, have to explain to their superiors why they won’t be won’t be making it into work on time. I’m running for mayor, because I know we can do better.
…Under my administration, priority number one will be to cut the red tape and install no less than three more wet station pumps immediately. My administration will pass a city ordinance that capitalizes on my work in the state legislature that requires green and blue roofs technology to be considered when developing, redeveloping or refurbishing buildings in our city. On day one, we will undergo a thorough study and review of our city’s infrastructure from water mains to sewerage systems and beyond and actually act on the report’s recommendations to fix our crumbling infrastructure. Most importantly, we will take an all-inclusive approach to the flooding problem and all our city’s problems.
There is no one solution to our city’s problems, and this most divergent change you will see from the Vision from Hoboken slate is a willingness to work together with the community, its businesses, and our partners at all levels of government for a better standard of life in Hoboken.
