Griffin hat trick lifts Bruins

The Jewish Community Center of Bayonne’s Jr. Division Floor Hockey season got underway with the Bruins taking on the Blackhawks. The Bruins went to work quickly with Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes zipping a pass to Ryan Griffin who lifted a wrist shot to net for a 1-0 lead. The action stayed fast paced as Griffin stretched the Bruins advantage to 2-0 with his second goal while Cifuentes picked up his second assist. After treading water offensively, the Blackhawks finally mounted a charge as Michael Egan battled a pass to Harsh Easwar who made it 2-1 with a head on blast. With their lead cut in half, the Bruins’ defense roared into action as goalie Victor Mendolaro ruled the net with for saves while defensemen Matt Miceli and Thomas Canela fought off the Blackhawks’ amped-up offense. After weathering the Blackhawks’ sharp shooters, the Bruins’ Ryan Griffin hit the hat trick mark by drilling in his third goal as Alejandro Cifuentes kept pace with his third assist. Trailing 3-1, the Blackhawks’ offense refueled as goalie Logan Mazziota sparked a comeback with 12 saves in the final 15 minutes. As Mazziota stepped up, the Blackhawks’ Alexandra Soliman dominated every faceoff to set up a pass from Harsh Easwar to Marcelino Soliman, who notched the Blackhawks second goal. With a slim 3-2 lead, the Bruins turned to their stick wizards, Ryan Griffin, Matt Miceli, and Alejandro Cifuentes to play keep away with pinpoint passing to run out the clock and seal a hard-fought 3-2 Bruins win.
