Playing in their 2013 Jewish Community Center of Bayonne’s Jr. Division Floor Hockey season opener, the Red Wings faced the (1-0) Bruins. The Bruins got out to a fast start as Ryan Griffin assisted Alejandro Cifuentes on the ice breaker followed by a second Cifuentes goal also assisted by Griffin for a quick 2-0 lead. As the Bruins’ offense put the pedal to the metal, Victor Mendolaro played like a pro at net while defensemen Matt Miceli and Thomas Canela ball hawked every Red Wings’ pass. With the Bruins ruling the early going, the Red Wings’ iron-willed captain Megan Feeley gave it her all as Drew Radil, Declan Good, and Michael Egan joined the ranks in hopes of righting the ship. After a brief lull in the scoring department, the Bruins were back in action as they built a 5-0 lead with Ryan griffin (2 goals – 1 assist) and Alejandro Cifuentes (1 goal – 2 assists) doing all the heavy lifting. Despite the lopsided score, the Red Wings went out with a roar as Declan Good assisted Megan Feeley on a net jet, but in the end the Bruins moved to 2-0 with a 5-1 victory.
