North Bergen Free Public Library events
Patrons can celebrate National Library Week at the North Bergen Public Library from Sunday April 14 to Saturday, April 20.
The Amazing Bubble Man will show off his skills on Friday, April 19 at 4:30 p.m.
“A Taste Of China” will be held on Saturday, April 20 at 2 p.m. where patrons will enjoy entertainment and demonstrations provided by Chinese-American Family Coalition of NJ. There will also be food, literature, music and dance.

North Bergen Municipal Pool registration has begun
North Bergen Municipal Pool registration begins on Monday, April 15. Returning members whose family memberships have not changed from last year can mail in their applications along with two current bills with their name that matches the application.
Applications can be mailed to NB Recreation Center 6300 Meadowview Ave, Attn: Joanne Sogluizzo. With mail-in registrations only checks or money orders are accepted. Those who register from April 15 to 19 receive three free guest passes per family membership, for one week only.
The two registration locations are the North Bergen Recreation Center at 6300 Meadowview Ave. and The North Bergen Pool. At the North Bergen Recreation Center, registrations are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday evenings on April 16, 23 from 5 to 8 p.m., and Saturdays April 20, 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The North Bergen Pool is located at 2111 91st St. Registration is on Tuesday evenings May 7, 14, 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays May 4, 11, 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

New Dominican restaurant in town
Owners Lizth Murillo and Angela Marte held a ribbon cutting ceremony for their new Dominican restaurant, El Panorama, on Friday, April 5.
“We hope that just as El Panorama was a piece of the hearts of Dominicans that it will also be a part of your hearts in North Bergen,” said Marte in Spanish.
To help them welcome the new restaurant were Mayor Nicholas Sacco, Commissioner Hugo Cabrera, Chief of Police Robert Dowd, and Assemblyman Vincent Prieto.
“I hope you have great success in the town of North Bergen,” said Assemblyman Vincent Prieto.
El Panorama is located at 7700 Tonnelle Ave. and has two parking lots.
Owner Murillo said that although currently the business has 25 employees, they are in need of many more. She also mentioned that the second floor of the restaurant will be open when a liquor license is obtained.
“I’d like to invite everybody to come and taste our food,” said Murillo. “This is a dream come true for us. We want to give you the best of service and offer jobs for the community.”
Hudson County Chamber of Commerce holding healthcare roundtable
The Hudson County Chamber of Commerce announced this week that it will host a roundtable discussion for business owners and leaders interested in learning more about new initiatives designed to rein in the rising cost of healthcare premiums for employers. The event will be held on Wed. April 17 at 8:30 a.m. at the Jersey City Museum, located at 350 Montgomery St.
The goal of the roundtable is to provide businesses an opportunity to learn more about what is driving rising healthcare costs for employers and how local healthcare facilities are working to bring down those costs. The session will be moderated by Nicholas A. Chiaravalloti, Executive Director, Guarini Institute for Government and Leadership.
The panel will feature Joseph Scott, President and CEO, LibertyHealth; Susan Walsh, M.D., Medical Director, Accountable Care Organization, Jersey City Medical Center; Ward Sanders, President, New Jersey Association of Health Plans and Assemblyman Gary Schaer, Deputy Speaker.
“The rising cost of healthcare is of urgent concern for our members,” said Maria Nieves, the Chamber’s President and CEO. “We hope to launch a series of conversations with this event that focuses on how our members and employers generally can begin to control these costs while also continuing to provide quality benefits to their employees.”
“This is an opportunity to shed light on the emerging issues in healthcare not only in Hudson County but nationally as we prepare to implement health care reform,” said Scott. “Understanding the impact of existing models as well as new and innovative delivery models is essential to the viability of the business community in Hudson County. “
