BREAKING: 12-inch water main breaks on Weehawken waterfront; hotel was temporarily without water

WEEHAKWEN — A 12-inch water main pipe located just off the intersection of 19th street and Harbor Boulevard in Weehawken broke early Wednesday afternoon, rendering the Sheraton Hotel temporarily without fresh water but causing little other damage or inconvenience.
A United Water worker at the scene, who wished to remain anonymous, said at 4:30 that a construction crew would need around four or five hours to repair the pipe. In the meantime, United Water provided some emergency water to the hotel, the worker said.
North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue personnel were also on the scene to provide water in case of an emergency. Sheraton staff indicated that they were providing complimentary bottled water to all of the hotel’s guests. They said that the hotel had enough water for guests to shower. – Dean DeChairo
