Eyes wide shut

Dear Editor:
On Jan. 15, 2013 Mr. Oscar Cordero penned a letter to the editor titled “Stack’s record has no flaws.” In his letter Mr. Cordero stated that I (Emilio Del Valle) was making false accusations against the “flawless political record of Mayor Stack.” The fact that Mr. Cordero is the Union City Adult Learning Center principal serving under the current Stack controlled school board makes his claim absurd. No administration has ever been flawless and none ever will be.
As a one timer supporter of Mayor Stack, I like so many others have become disappointed, not only in the way Mayor Stack runs the city, but how he conducts himself. I have personally been on the receiving end of his verbal tirades. Why? Because I have asked questions about our city’s management at public meetings. It seems that Mayor Stack takes it personally when one asks questions about his administration, and he never seems to have a straight answer. When asked questions such as how much the former chief was paid and why the city paid off a person accused of billing for hours not worked, Mayor Stack had no answers. When asked how his ex-wife got a free city car with free gas and insurance, Mayor Stack had no answers. The FBI raided city hall and the Community Development Agency; Mayor Stack had no answers. Several “unnamed Union City officials” have been mentioned in on-going federal investigations; Mayor Stack has no answer as to who these officials are and what he has done to address allegations of corruption. At a recent commission meeting the mayor was asked one simple question, “Did you receive a target letter from the FBI?” Mayor Stack could not provide an answer. This was a simple ‘yes or no’ question. Mayor Stack refused to answer.
Mr. Cordero is entitled to his opinion, he is beholden to the current administration for his position at the Union City Board of Education to the sum of $145,000.00 per year. His salary is paid by tax dollars, including mine. Before Mr. Cordero makes the outrageous claim that Stack’s administration is flawless, I suggest he reads the paper or attends the next commission meeting. As a Union City resident who follows local news reports, I can assure Mr. Cordero that Mayor Stack and his administration have many flaws.
