The Jewish Community Center of Bayonne’s Indoor Soccer Senior Division championship round pitted the Rockets against the Comets. The two iron-willed squads battled at every turn with the Rockets’ Madison Neal Markowski ending the scoreless tie with a viper quick strike making it 1-0, Rockets. After assisting on the game’s first goal, Hailey Bouillon joined forces with Meghann Mock, Colin Woods, and Kaitlin Morrell to bolster the Rockets’ midcourt and defensive ranks. Despite being double teamed all game long, the Comets’ one-man wrecking crew, Alexandro Gonzalez, stalked the Rockets’ net with pinpoint shots and timely passes to James Bajor, Allen McComb, and Joshua Verzosa. With shots streaming in at every angle, the Rockets’ Chris Shaw repelled one head-spinning torrent after another as the frustrated Comets hammered away. Trailing 1-0, the Comets added another weapon to their scoring strides as Drew Radil, Michael Lago, Elliott Santana, and Natallyah Teixeira launched long-distance volleys at the Rockets’ net. The move proved ill advised as the Rockets’ Chris Shaw turned the tables on the Comets and sent a net-to-net howitzer in for the Rockets’ second goal. Up by two goals with 15 minutes remaining, the Rockets gained a game-changing foothold as Colin Woods and Hailey Bouillon shut down the Comets’ passing lanes and shots on net. The defensive moat stayed intact as the Rockets held on for a 2-0 victory and the Gold medal. For the Comets, a valiant effort and an epic playoff win clinched the silver medal. Once again, thank you to all the players, coaches, parents, and fans who made this season a huge success.
