Artists wanted
If you live in Secaucus and are a painter, photographer, mixed media artist, sculptor, or have any other artistic abilities, Mayor Michael Gonnelli and the Town Council would like to highlight your talent. All work will be viewed, selected by a jury, and received at The Town Hall by Thursday, April 11. The artist’s reception will be held on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m.

‘Kids’ Theme Nights’
Mayor Michael Gonnelli and the Town Council present “Kids’ Theme Nights” at the Recreation Center, located at 1200 Koelle Blvd. On Sunday, March 31, “Luau” will be celebrated from 5 to 8 p.m. and refreshments will be served.
NJMC Welcomes Distribution International to Meadowlands District
The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) is pleased to announce that Distribution International has opened a New Jersey branch in East Rutherford. The Houston-based, worldwide supplier of thermal insulation, safety equipment and environmental products this month moved into warehouse and office space on Murray Hill Parkway. The company’s decision to expand into the Meadowlands District is the latest example of economic growth in the region.
“The Meadowlands Commission welcomes Distribution International to the Meadowlands District – the economic engine of northern New Jersey,” said Marcia Karrow, Executive Director of the NJMC. “Distribution International has made a wise choice in taking advantage of the District’s ideal location and business friendly environment that provide a pathway to economic success.”
Distribution International, which is celebrating its 55th year in business, supplies mechanical insulation, abatement, fire-stopping and safety products used in all lines of construction to the industrial and commercial markets. “Our products are energy-efficient, which reduce heating and cooling costs for our customers, and protect their businesses while benefitting the environment,” said Thomas McQuillan, President of Distribution International.
McQuillan said the Meadowlands District’s proximity to its New Jersey and New York customers and easy access to major roadways made moving to the region an easy decision.
“We’re closer to projects in New Jersey, which makes it very convenient for our New Jersey customers,” McQuillan said. “A lot of our contractors who work in New York City also come through this way. Plus, we can deliver to our New York businesses right over the George Washington Bridge. The proximity to Routes 17 and 3 makes movement very easy.”
Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari announces re-election bid
Hudson County Sheriff Frank X. Schillari has announced that he will run for re-election as a candidate in the Democratic Primary this June. Schillari is seeking his second term as sheriff.
He was the first sheriff in the history of Hudson County to introduce a 24/7 patrol program that provides round-the-clock protection, while at the same time reducing overtime, by reassigning desk duty officers to the streets.
Two years ago, Schillari waged a bitter battle to be sheriff when the county’s Democratic establishment withdrew its support from then-Sheriff Juan Perez and decided to back Schillari instead. Perez responded by switching political parties and registering as a Republican. Each man won his party primary in June and then faced each other in the general election in November 2010.
Hudson County Democratic Chairman and Bayonne Mayor Mark Smith said he is happy to support the sheriff’s re-election bid. “Sheriff Schillari has worked hard and proven his worth as a concerned and compassionate leader who cares about our citizens’ safety,” Smith said.
Schillari has also been endorsed by Hudson County Executive Thomas DeGise and North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco, who also serves as a state senator.
A career law enforcement officer, Schillari is a U.S. Navy veteran and retired Secaucus Police Sergeant. Before being elected sheriff he served as an undersheriff for 13 years. Schillari, a native of Jersey City, currently lives with his wife in Secaucus.
April 1 is the filing deadline for candidates who plan to run in the political party primaries in June.
