Weehawken Recreation announces annual Easter egg hunt
The Weehawken Recreation Department will hold its annual Easter egg hunt Saturday, March 30 at 11 a.m. at Louisa Park, located on the corner of Boulevard East and Louisa Place. The event is open to children aged 3 through 8. In addition to the hunt, children will have the opportunity to win prizes, collect balloons and take photos with the Easter bunny. In case of bad weather, the event will be relocated to Weehawken High School’s gym (Highwood Avenue entrance).
The event is sponsored by Mayor Richard Turner and the Township Council and is open Weehawken residents only.
Hudson Hospice announces spring training course
Hudson Hospice announced its spring training hospice course this week for volunteers interested in making a difference in the lives of the terminally ill and their families. The six-week course will train volunteers to work in companionship roles, provide emotional support, run errands and provide telephone reassurance to families and patients. The course, held at Hudson Hospice’s Jersey City office, located at 93 Clerk St., will be offered on Tuesday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon, or Tuesday nights from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Classes will start April 9 and conclude on May 28.

Union City to hold job fair March 27
A city-sponsored job fair will be held on Wednesday, March 27 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Union City High School, located at 2500 Kennedy Blvd. Over 30 companies from a wide variety of industries will attend to both accept resumes and give career advice. Attendees are advised to dress to impress and to bring a professional resume. All are welcome.
All three Democratic state senators to run on party line
Hudson County Democratic Chairman Mark A. Smith announced Monday that all three Hudson County incumbent Democratic state senators will be running on the party line in the June 2013 primary, in their respective districts.
Sen. Sandra Cunningham (31st), Sen. Nicholas Sacco (32nd), and Sen. Brian Stack (33rd) will run.
In making the announcement, Chairman Smith expressed his support for each of the senators. “We are indeed fortunate to be represented in the State Senate by three distinguished, hard-working, passionate representatives of the people. The Democratic Party and the people of New Jersey have been well served by our senators who fight for us and stand up for Democratic family values every day,” said Chairman Smith.
“I’m pleased to, once again, be able to debunk the perennial rumors of discord and disharmony within the HCDO,” said Smith. “Our Democratic Party is united and eager to get to work electing Democrats this fall.”
Sacco said, “We are happy to support Chairman Mark Smith an Democratic Party Unity because our candidates continue to be the only true advocates for middle class taxpayers, families and senior citizens—in Hudson County, New Jersey and America.”
Stack said, “Ultimately, we are all striving for the same objectives, which are enhanced quality of life and advocacy for local residents. I’m happy to work with anyone who is willing to fight for their constituency.”
Chairman Smith thanked the senators, saying they “are each, fierce advocates for the people that they represent. They work hard and they play to win and that’s a good thing for Hudson County.”
