McComb, Bajor catalyze Comets’ win

With all three of its Indoor Soccer Senior Division teams deadlocked with (2-2) records, the Jewish Community Center of Bayonne entered week four with the tightest title race in league history. Usually by week four, at least one team seems to be the frontrunner, but not this season. With that said, both the Rockets and the Comets showed up ready to go all out in hopes of capturing one more precious victory.
It took over 20 minutes, but the Comets struck first as Allen McComb slammed in the game’s first goal off an assist from James Bajor. As the Rockets’ offense sputtered for most of the bout, team captain and defensive stalwart Meghann Mock turned a short pass from Chris Shaw into a game-tying torpedo. The shift in momentum continued as Hailey Bouillon zipped a centering pass to Madison Neal Markowski, who blasted her seventh goal of the season, giving the Rockets a 2-1 lead.
Down by one, it took the Comets less than 30 seconds to answer as Drew Radil pounded a long pass to Alexandro Gonzalez, who notched his league-leading 11th goal of the season. As both teams mounted a furious stretch run, each squad’s depth of talent surfaced as Collin Woods, Mackenzie Woods and Kaitlin Morrell joined forces to launch eight shots on net for the Rockets.
Meanwhile, Elliott Santana, Joshua Verzosa, Michael Lago and Natallyah Teixeira stormed the net for the Comets. The pace came to a boiling point when the Comets’ Allen McComb battled the ball to James Bajor, who bulldozed in the game-winning shot for a 3-2 Comets’ victory.
