Police looking for hit-and-run driver

The Bayonne police are seeking information on a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of Justin Bellini, 22, of Bayonne, who was struck around 4:30 a.m. near 25th Street and Broadway on March 9. Anyone with information can call (201) 858-6925.

Heroin bust

Based on a tip that the detective department received, the Bayonne police confiscated the largest amount of heroin in Bayonne history and charged Nicholas G. Rhodes, 31, of Bayonne with a number of drug-related charges including intent to distribute cocaine and heroin within a 1,000 feet of two schools.
Police Chief Ralph Scianni said police set up a surveillance operation on Feb. 1, which resulted in Rhodes’s arrest. Later, after a search of his person and his residences, the police allegedly found more than 900 bags of heroin, 47 pages of suspected cocaine, and 31 pieces of crack cocaine.

Woods named new OEM coordinator for county

The Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders voted to approve in February the appointment of James Woods to the position of Hudson County Emergency Management Coordinator. Woods would replace the retiring John Burns. Woods will fill the remainder of Burns’s three-year term, which is set to expire on June 30, 2014.
The freeholders thanked Burns for his dedicated service to the citizens of Hudson County.
