Vanilla Ice disses Hoboken in newspaper interview

HOBOKEN — Oh no he didn’t.
1990s rapper Vanilla Ice, whose rise and fall in the entertainment industry made him the butt of jokes, has recently taken a little shot at a town that has also been the butt of jokes from time to time.
Ice had a hit in 1990 with the rap song “Ice Ice Baby,” but subsequently fell out of the spotlight and encountered legal troubles.
He made a comeback in motocross racing and on TV, and recently has started a line of — believe it or not — chandeliers and sconces, with a website called lightslightsbaby.com.
In an interview over the weekend with the Daily Record, Ice — or Robert Van Winkle by birth — said he gets his tattoos in Belleville.
“I love Belleville,” he says in the story. “It’s got a character to it. It’s not Hoboken. It’s not all glitter and expensive rent.”
C’mon, Hoboken’s got a lot more than glitter: Art galleries, restaurants, interesting neighbors (young and old), the fine Hoboken Reporter newspaper, and Maxwell’s — maybe you can come perform?
Kick it one time, boy!
