Gonzalez nets six, Comets roll

Two games into their 2013 Jewish Community Center of Bayonne’s Indoor Soccer Senior Division season, both the Comets (1-1) and the Rockets (1-1) hold records with plenty of questions still unanswered. One question got answered right off the bat as the Comets’ Alexandro Gonzalez scored within the first few seconds against the Rockets’ hard-nosed defense. For the Comets, the offensive fireworks continued as they built a 3-0 lead as Joshua Verzosa and Alexandro Gonzalez added goals off assists from James Bajor and Gonzalez. Stunned by the Comets’ scoring barrage, the Rockets’ Madison Neal Markowski rallied the troops and launched a pass from Colin Woods to net to cut the Comets’ lead to 3-1. As the Rockets hunkered down with Meghann Mock, Kaitlin Morrel and Mackenzie Woods playing blockade defenses, the Comets’ offense ran aground for the next 20 minutes. That all changed when the Comets’ Alexandro Gonzalez torched the net for four straight goals with James Bajor, Joshua Verzosa, and Allen McComb assisting. Staring up at a 7-1 deficit, the Rockets rolled the dice and put Chris Shaw into the offensive ranks and the move paid off as Shaw notched two quick goals off assists by Madison Neal Markowski. The rally soon faded as the Comets’ Drew Radil returned to net while Michael Lago and Natalleyah Teixeira battened down the hatches to sure up the Comets’ 7-3 victory.
The Players of the Week for week two were: Offensive Player of the Week – Alexandro Gonzalez, Comets; Defensive Player of the Week – Drew Radil, Comets; Teamwork/Leadership Player of the Week – Madison Neal Markowski, Rockets.
