Tedesco propels Colts to win

After stubbing their toes in game one of their week seven JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Football Junior Division double-header, the Colts (6-2-1) hoped to rebound as they faced the Jets (1-7). The Colts stampeded out to a 22-0 lead as Mike Tedesco, Riley Robertson and Erik Solis each notched rushing TDs, while Robertson and Solis also tacked on two-point scampers. The Colts’ scoring blitz also got a boost from Mike Tedesco, who recorded two picks in the early going.
The Jets got going just before halftime as Devin Herring sprinted wire-to-wire to cut the Colts’ lead to 22-6. Up by 16, the Colts continued to pound the ball up-court with their ground attack as Mike Tedesco pinballed 30 yards to the end zone for a 28-6 Colts’ advantage. The Colts’ lead swelled to 30-6 when Christopher Ballance, Nate Cintron and Da’mien Taylor swarmed the Jets’ ball-carrier in the end zone for a safety. Slowly but surely, the Jets’ offense perked up as Adam Brash zipped full-court for his first TD of the season as the Jets narrowed the Colts’ lead to 30-12.
After a solid defensive stand led by Josh Belber and Brian Pipher, the Jets were on the brink of tallying another score, but the Colts’ Mike Tedesco had other ideas as he reeled in his third interception of the game. For the Colts’ offense, the rushing yards kept piling up as Erik Solis dashed to paydirt from 10 yards out making 36-12, Colts. With less than 10 minutes remaining, the Jets began to rally as Thomas Canela turned a short crossing route into a 25-yard TD strike and when Brian Pipher hauled in the two-point dart the Jets had moved to within 16 points at 36-20.
After shutting down the Colts’ high-powered running attack, the Jets’ offense was back in business. Speedster Brian “Hot Wheels” Pipher zipped in for a coast-to-coast TD gallop and a two-point grab, and the Jets were in the hunt again trailing just 36-28. With their tail wings in the Jets’ sight line, the Colts finally sealed the victory when Mike Tedesco gripped a goal-to-goal TD toss followed by a clutch two-point catch. The Colts held on for a 44-28 victory.
The Junior Division Players of the Week for week seven were: Offensive Player of the Week – Erik Solis, Colts; Defensive Players of the Week – Drew Radil, Bears, Michael Tedesco, Colts; Teamwork/Leadership Player of the Week – Christopher Ballance, Colts.
