With the rush to get the kids’ summer plans finalized, local parents are finding a wealth of options at Steven Cooperative School. Whether a student prefers the great outdoors, fashion design, or an extra dose of high-impact academics, Stevens Cooperative has something for everyone from ages three to 14.
Stevens offers five unique summer programs, including day camps for children ages three to 4th grade, academic Think Tank classes for 2nd – 8th grade (including courses in literature and writing, advanced math and public speaking) and specialty camps for PreK – 8th grade which include activities such music, fashion design, robotics and biking.
Field trips include visits to Alstede Farms, Secaucus Pool, the New York Aquarium and the Meadowlands Environmental Center.
“Our summer programs are a mix of education and physical activity, but most of all, excitement for children of all ages,” says Leatrice Westdal, auxiliary programs coordinator for Stevens Cooperative School. “Families can sign up for one or all seven weeks of camp and are able to choose from our more traditional day camp or our weekly classes that specialize in activities such as filmmaking, chemistry or sailing. We’re also excited to extend our challenging academic courses to students as young as 2nd grade.”
Stevens’ summer programs begin in mid-June and run through Aug. 9. Most programs include extended care until 6 p.m. Each camp group has no more than 15 students, led by an experienced teacher and assistant, and academic courses are taught by seasoned teaching professionals.
“This is a great place to have fun in the summer,” says Nancy Rossi, Stevens Director of Admissions and High School Guidance. “But our summer programs are also an excellent opportunity for parents and students to get to know more about Stevens and our teaching methods. Some of our best students were once campers here.”
