When the 2012-2013 football season was still young, Giants fans had high hopes that Big Blue would repeat the magic of last year, prove their dynasty pedigree, and bring another Super Bowl championship home to the Meadowlands.
After acquiring controversial quarterback Tim Tebow last summer, Jets fans just hoped Gang Green wouldn’t have another dismal and embarrassing season like last year.
As we all know by now, both dreams were dashed. Super Bowl XLVII will be played on Sunday, Feb. 3 without either home team on the field. Will some bitter fans spend the day reorganizing the toolbox instead of watching the Baltimore Ravens trounce the San Francisco 49ers, or vice versa? Sure. But most local football fans are bigger than that and will still watch the game, even though they don’t have a dog in this fight.
There is no dearth of great places across Hudson County to go for a good time, a big screen, and a terrific Super Bowl party.

Jersey City
At O’Connells Bar and Grill (111 Montgomery St.) the Super Bowl will be on all of the televisions (with volume), along with happy hour specials on food and drinks all night.
Michael Anthony’s (502 Washington Blvd.) is offering a variety of packages for the Super Bowl. A pigskin package, which includes food for the game, costs $25 per person. A tailgate package, which includes food, beer, and wine for the entire game, is $55 per person. The bar is also offering a skybox package, which is for parties of 25-50 people. The skybox package includes a private section with multiple televisions, a private bar, and a private buffet. For more information about the packages and to make reservations, call (201) 798-1798.
PJ Ryan’s (292 Barrow St.) often draws a large crowd of New York Giants fans, so this might be a good place to go to commiserate Big Blue’s fate this year. The bar has seven 56-inch high definition televisions. Bar specials include $3 Yuengling, Coors Light, and Bud Light drafts, all day on Super Bowl Sunday.
Hoboken
At Wicked Wolf (120 Sinatra Dr.), fans should arrive early, as this place always draws a huge crowd. From 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., Wicked Wolf will offer $3 pints of Bud Light, and then $15 Bud Light towers and buckets all day, as well as 50-cent – yes, 50-cent – wings. (For those of you hosting Super Bowl parties of your own, the Wolf is also offering deals on wings to go, including: buy 20 wings, get 10 free; buy 40 wings, get 20 free; and buy 60 wings, get 30 free.
Biggie’s Restaurant (36-42 Newark St.) will offer burger sliders, pulled pork, lobster rolls, and their signature wings as part of their football specials during the Super Bowl.
On First Street at the Shannon (106 First St.), the first 100 fans will be offered “free spirit towels.” Super Bowl Sunday at the Shannon will also have “predict the play” raffles with prizes. The Shannon will also have “lots of giveaways and plenty of drink specials.” And, if you enjoy listening to Avicii and other dance music after a football game, the Shannon is also hosting “Hoboken’s hottest dance party after the game.”
If good beer and watching the game on the biggest television screen is more your style, then make sure to check out Pilsner Haus Biergarten at 1422 Grand St. in uptown Hoboken. The new Biergarten will show the game on their custom installed 20-foot (240 inch) television screen. For the Super Bowl, the Biergarten will offer 1/2 liter of Radeberger Pilsener for $4, beginning at kickoff.
At Willie McBride’s (616 Grand St.), football fans will be treated to $2 beer specials such as Coors Light, Miller Lite, and Yuengling, and $5 baskets of wings. Reserve a table by calling (201) 610-1522 and enter to win a chance at a three-hour open bar for you and 10 friends. McBride’s will also feature expensive prizes and giveaways, including an electronic fireplace, and more.
At The Tilted Kilt (800 Jackson St.) will also have a nice Super Bowl offering, if last year is anything to go by. Along with the standard pub fare, the Tilted Kilt menu also features a few Irish dishes – and beer. Lots of it. For more information on their specials, call (201) 714-4040.
At McSwiggan’s (110 First St.) – traditionally known as a New England Patriots bar – might be a fun place to see Super Bowl XLVII since Tom Brady and Co. got bounced by Baltimore. (Ha!)
Secaucus
At Molly McEvoy’s (146 Front St.) will offer food and drink specials to go along with the bar’s 10 flat screen TVs.
At Charlie’s Corner (1264 Paterson Plank Rd.) an old standby near the Plaza, will have a $20 cover for the game and feature draft beer all night.
Another favorite community bar, the Plank Road Inn (1538 Paterson Plank Rd.) will have a free buffet and has invited fans to view the game from one of their 35 TVs, including 14 that are in HD. (201) 865-9516.
There will be a $20 Super Bowl cover charge at Mausam Indian Restaurant (1150 Paterson Plank Road) which will get you food all evening and shots on the house with every touchdown. (Drink in moderation!)
