Health and wellness involved more than just hospitals and health care providers in 2012. Local blood drives continued to reach out to residents for donations, and many towns held fund raisers to financially aid hospitals and other institutions devoted to health and healing. Christ Hospital in Jersey City continued the non-profit-to-profit trend in 2012 after it was sold. Several area hospitals were forced to evacuate when they were threatened by Hurricane Sandy.
