Local kids treated to holiday cruise
Fifth and sixth graders from Weehawken’s Roosevelt School were treated to a holiday cruise aboard the Spirit of New Jersey on Dec. 6, courtesy of Spirit. Mayor Richard Turner and Board of Education President Richard Barsa were on hand to send the students off on their voyage, which included a special holiday tour of the New York City skyline complete with a buffet and holiday concert. Spirit Cruises has operated out of the township’s Lincoln Harbor for 25 years.
Weehawken seniors elect new officers
Mayor Richard Turner swore in the newly elected officers of the Weehawken Seniors Club this week in a ceremony. The new officers are President Alma Segedin, Vice President Anna DelVescovo, Secretary Marie Quinn, and Sunshine Lady Mary Richardson. The Weehawken Seniors are always interested in welcoming new members. In addition, the club holds special holiday dinners, luncheons, and other events and activities. Hoboken Menorah lighting this Sunday
Chabad of Hoboken is sponsoring their 11th annual Menorah lighting at Hoboken City Hall, 94 Washington St., recognizing elected local and state officials for their efforts and leadership during Hurricane Sandy.
The event takes place this Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. There will be hot latkes, donuts, chocolate gelt, funky dreidels dancing and more. Honored guests will include Mayor Dawn Zimmer, Senator Menendez, Congressman Sires, other area mayors and members of the Hoboken city council. The event is free and all are welcome.
A children’s program begins at 3:30 pm inside City Hall and features the Yeladudes Theater performing the story of the “Three Challot” and arts and crafts. Performance begins at 4 p.m. and tickets for the show are $10 or $ 8 on the web.
Chanukah at City Hall is co-sponsored by Hoboken University Medical Center, Shoprite of Hoboken and ESS Home Theater.

Councilwoman hosting Sandy fundraiser in Secaucus
“Hudson County Recovers,” a non-profit organization formed to help Hudson County victims of Hurricane Sandy, will hold a fundraising event Thursday, Dec. 20.
The event will be held at La Reggia restaurant, 40 Wood Ave. in Secaucus, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. All proceeds will be used to benefit local non-profit organizations involved in helping Hudson County recover from the effects of the hurricane and flooding, and all donations are fully tax deductible.
“Hudson County Recovers” was started by Hoboken Councilwoman Beth Mason, who is also the president of the Mason Civic League, a charitable organization based in Hoboken.
