Port Authority officials say PATH re-opening could take weeks, or more

HOBOKEN — While PATH serivce was restored to World Trade Center and Exchange Place Monday, Port Authority officials said Hoboken PATH is still weeks away, at least. An inoperable PATH has already been reported to have caused hour-plus waits for busses and ferries into New York City.
According to an article on NJ.com, Port Authority officials recently took reporters down into the PATH tunnels to survey infrastructure damage and see what is taking so long.
On the tour of the ravaged tunnel system, Acting PATH Director Stephen Kingsberry said the storm caused $300 million worth of damage, which the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey would be seeking from FEMA.
Kingsberry could not say just when Hoboken service would resume.
“The system, the switches, all the electrical equipment was damaged,” Kingsberry said. “We just say that it will be weeks instead of months. We’ve been working on it day and night.”
The Hoboken PATH station is the last of all 13 PATH stations to remain closed.
