Countywide AIDS benefit postponed

HUDSON COUNTY –- The 16th Annual Grand Tasting, hosted by Sparrow Wine and Liquor Co. and FAITH services has been postponed due to Hurricane Sandy.
The event, which has attracted 1,000 attendees in the past as well as featured food from 25 local restaurants in both Hoboken and Jersey City, was originally set for Thursday Nov. 15 at the Westin Hotel in Newport, Jersey City. All proceeds from the event have gone in the past to community non-profit FAITH Services, which offers support to HIV positive men and women around the county.
FAITH Services Director Gustavo Valdes, in conjunction with Hoboken University Medical Center, released a statement on Friday postponing the event due to the flooding and damages brought on by Hurricane Sandy.
The proposed date for the rescheduling will be sometime in February. Tickets already purchased will be honored at the rescheduled event, according to the Sparrow Wine website.

FEMA and Small Business Administration come to Jersey City

JERSEY CITY — The Small Business Administration has opened a Business Disaster Recovery Center in New Jersey City University’s Small Business Development Center at 285 West Side Ave., Suites 189-191. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Also, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Small Business Administration planned to hold a meeting Wednesday, Nov. 14 for businesses that were affected recently by Hurricane Sandy. Representatives from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority will also be present at the meeting. The meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. at City Hall, at 280 Grove St., Jersey City.

Comedy benefit

HOBOKEN – Willie McBrides, 616 Grand St., will host a comedy benefit on Thursday, Nov 15. All proceeds will go to RebuildHoboken.org, to raise funds after Hurricane Sandy.
The event will begin at 8 p.m. and will feature Chris Calogero (Opie & Anthony), Amy Daulton (New York Underground Comedy Festival, Boston Improv Festival), Gary Gulman (Finalist “Last Comic Standing”, Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show) and Headliner Kyle Grooms (VH-1, Comedy Central, “Chappelle’s Show”).
