Oresko shelter was wonderful

To the Editor:

Recently we had Hurricane Sandy, my first ever hurricane, and I never want to experience it again. I received many calls from the mayor’s office informing us where to go if we needed to. Thankfully I did receive the calls because my mother suffers from emphysema and asthma and needs daily breathing treatments. So off I went to Nicholas Oreko School. My mother was having difficulty breathing and the first face I saw when I opened the door to the school was Dr. Patricia McGeehan, who was there every day, all day.
I have to commend people on how well of a job they all did. Let’s start with the Bayonne Police Department. Officer Dan Martinez was wonderful and Officer Bill Downey was so helpful. They couldn’t have done more for us. To the Bayonne patriots, particularly a young man named Nick D’Angelo who was so good with the seniors when he helped them. Saving the best for last, the school had a medical room set up by McCabe for people like my mom. This EMT worker was so awesome, so caring, and showed so much concern for everyone. He knew his room and all his patients. To Ray Branagan, I would like to thank him. He deserves an award!
I would like to thank them all! They all did a wonderful job. Every day I went twice a day, and they always had smiles on their faces and made everyone feel welcome and safe. I have to say that it was amazing how a small town like Bayonne pulled together in such a time of need. It was a disaster that occurred, for sure, but it was wonderful to see Bayonne at its best in a time of need.
