JERSEY CITY – On Wednesday, Nov. 14, Habitat for Humanity of Hudson County will host a “Recovery Night” fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. at Barcade in Jersey City. The fundraiser will benefit Jersey City Sandy Recovery.
There will be a suggested donation of $10 per guest at the door, and Barcade will also contribute a portion of the evening’s beverage sales to Jersey City Sandy Recovery. Barcade is located at 163 Newark Ave.
Since its formation last week, Jersey City Sandy Recovery has recruited approximately 500 volunteers, delivered basic supplies to many households in Jersey City, and has collected food and other donations from more than 40 states. Other donations have come from as far away as Europe.
“We began as neighbors helping neighbors and grew beyond our wildest dreams,” Dana Shilling, an organizer with Jersey City Sandy Recovery, said in a press statement. “It’s an amazing example of a city coming together to help itself.”
For the past two weeks, Habitat for Humanity of Hudson County has been working to help increase the flow of communication between relief and recovery organizations and connect them with resources. The organization has, for example, compiled, updated, and shared information in an effort to ensure that donations and volunteer efforts are used as effectively as possible.
“By supporting groups like Jersey City Sandy Recovery, we can help move Jersey City to a full recovery,” said Bridget Hamill, president of the board of trustees for Habitat for Humanity of Hudson County.
The event at Barcade will be the first in a series of fundraisers to support local organizations that are assisting Hudson County residents who lost the most as a result of Hurricane Sandy.
