Couple indicted for murder of Guttenberg grocery store owner

NORTH BERGEN – A North Bergen couple, Jose Castaing and Liz Velez, who were charged with the murder of Guttenberg grocery store owner Bahaa Nesim back on April 26, have been indicted.
The couple is charged with allegedly stabbing Nesim several times during an alleged robbery at the store in April. They were arrested shortly after the attack.
Police were alerted of the murder by a customer who entered the store, then flagged down police when the robbery and murder were taking place.
Authorities found an undisclosed amount of cash inside the store, according to the Hudson County prosecutor. Two knives believed to have been used in the alleged murder were recovered, along with blood-splattered clothes allegedly worn by the assailants.
According to Prosecutor Guy Gregory, the couple faces 30 years to life if convicted.
The arraignment will be Nov. 5, 2012. Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Salvatore Rozzi is in charge of the case.
Castaing and Velez have been charged with murder, felony murder, robbery, possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.
