Former prosecutor named to Marist High School Board
Leo J. Hurley Jr., an attorney with Archer & Greiner P.C. in Hackensack, N.J., has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Marist High School, a private Catholic, coeducational, four-year college preparatory school, accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
The Board of Directors serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of Trustees, consulting on various issues related to the continued health and success of the school. The Board of Directors is made up of members of the community from various walks of life who believe in the importance of the school and its mission. A fourth-generation Bayonne resident with Marist alumni on both his mother’s and father’s sides of his family, Hurley’s Board service reflects his recognition of and dedication to the important role that Marist plays in the Bayonne community.
A graduate of Georgetown University and the University of Notre Dame Law School, Hurley is a former assistant prosecutor in the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office. His significant investigative and trial experience enables him to effectively represent clients in all manner of civil and criminal disputes. Hurley also serves as attorney to the Construction Board of Appeals of the City of Bayonne.
Hurley has been a trustee of the Hudson County Bar Association since 2007. He is a past president of the Hudson County Bar Association Young Lawyers division, serving in that capacity from 2006-2007. He is a charter member of the Shamrock Society of Bayonne, a longtime member of the County Corkmen’s Association of Bayonne, and serves on the Bayonne St. Patrick’s Parade Committee.
HCCC to hold job fair
The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Center for Business & Industry (CBI) has planned a job fair for Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the College’s Culinary Arts Institute Conference Center at 161 Newkirk Street, Jersey City.
HCCC CBI Executive Director Ana Chapman said the college invites employers from the full spectrum of industries in Hudson County to participate; she expects to have companies representing the finance, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, retail, and transportation, logistics, and distribution fields on board that day.
The job fair will be open to Hudson County residents 18 years of age or older and who possess a high school diploma or GED. Job-seekers are asked to bring copies of their résumés with them and to be certain that they are armed with names and contact information for their references. In addition to applying for employment with the participating companies and organizations, jobseekers will also have the opportunity to attend information sessions on résumé writing, interviewing skills, targeted job searches, and enhancing workplace skills. Free screenings for prostate cancer
Men are invited to come to Metropolitan Family Health Center to learn about prostate cancer and free screenings. On Sept. 27 and 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 935 Garfield Avenue, Jersey City, you can talk health experts, obtain materials on preventing this disease and arrange for a prostate screening.
