Timeouts

Question: In high school volleyball, how many timeouts is each team allowed in a set? Four, three, or two? Are unused timeouts allowed to be carrier over into the next set? Can any player on the court request a timeout?
Answer: Each team is permitted two timeouts per set. Unused timeouts do not carry over to the following set. Requests for timeouts from the head coach or playing captain only will be recognized by the referee (Rule 11, Sec. 2, Art. 1-3)

Question: If Team S, serving team, requests a third timeout, is this granted? Is there a penalty?
Answer: If a squad has used all of its allotted timeouts, request is recognized but Team S is penalized with loss of rally (lose serve)/point awarded to opponent and set resumes immediately (Rule 11, Sec. 2, Art. 4, Pen. 2).
