Amanda Rene Barrera and Alexander Louis Alum were married on Sat., Aug. 4 at the historic San Gabriel Mission Roman Catholic Church in San Gabriel, California. The couple met four years ago as law school students in Chicago. During the ceremony, Father Darrin Merlino, CMF, quipped that he had not seen that many lawyers together since a certain famous California trial. The church ceremony was followed by a reception – featuring Cuban cuisine – at the Westin Hotel in nearby Pasadena, filled with kinsmen and friends, many of whom had traveled from various states and countries, including a sizable contingent from Hudson County.
Amanda is a daughter of Esther Favreau and Robert Barrera of Los Angeles. She holds a B.A. summa cum laude from the University of San Diego – where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa – and a Juris Doctor from Northwestern University. She will be an Assistant District Attorney at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn beginning in January.
The groom is the son of the Cliffside Park couple of Maria and Luis Alum, Esq., whose law office is located in Guttenberg. Alexander, a St. Peter’s Prep alumnus, holds a B.A. with highest honors from Rutgers University (Newark) – where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa – as well as an M.A. from George Washington University and a Juris Doctor cum laude from Northwestern University. He was a litigation associate until recently at the New York law firm of Paul-Weiss, and is currently a law clerk for the Honorable Judge J. Linares, of the Federal District Court of N.J.
Following a honeymoon trip abroad, the couple has established residence in West New York.
