‘Massive problem created by Ian Sacs’

Dear Editor:
It can certainly help Hoboken to reopen that small stretch of Madison Avenue off Newark St. but that will not alleviate the massive problem created by Ian Sacs, the transportation director: the traffic jam at Jackson and Newark. Already a bad intersection, adding two sided parking and a ridiculous bicycle lane on Jackson has made it only worse. It’s difficult to exit Hoboken already and now drivers will turn right on Madison to get around the jam only to clog more streets just to get out of town. Jackson at Newark needs two lanes of traffic to accommodate the two lanes of traffic turning from Newark onto Jackson. Drop one side of parking and nix that bicycle lane, which is dangerous to say the least. Now the police have to expend needed resources to direct traffic because road rage is growing at that point. Hoboken does not need this kind of mindless reform. It needs common sense and a transportation leader who has his head on the ground and not in the clouds.
