A funeral mass was offered Aug. 22 at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Dumont, for Arthur Edward Coughlin, 85, of Fawn Lake Forest, Pa., passed away on Friday, Aug. 17. He was born to the late Arthur and Josephine Coughlin. After serving in the Army from 1945 to 1946, he became a Hoboken Police Officer, following in the footsteps of his father. During Arthur’s time in law enforcement, he attended Seton Hall to pursue his Bachelor’s Degree. The family then moved to Dumont, where he began his second career of teaching and coaching at Hoboken High School for 36 years. He was also the Night Store Manager at Alexander’s Department Store in Paramus for 25 years. After retiring in 1989, he moved to Fawn Lake Forest in Hawley, Pa. where he was a volunteer ambulance driver for the Lackawaxen Ambulance Corp. He also served as an Usher in St. Ann’s Parish for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks. Arthur is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen (nee Hendricks), his sons; Brian and his wife Catherine, Arthur and his wife, Doreen; his daughter Coreen and her husband Robert; his son in law James Davis, husband of the late daughter Jeanette; and close family friend, JoAnne Goldman.
